Household Rubbish Bags

Official Council rubbish bags will be collected by the urban kerb side collection service or can be taken to the transfer stations free of charge.

The Carterton bags are green plastic and the Masterton bags are black plastic. South Wairarapa's bags are made of paper. All bags have the council name and information printed on them.

Rubbish bags should only contain normal household waste and must not include hot ashes, liquids, unwrapped sharp objects or dangerous items.

Bags containing liquid, dangerous or hazardous items and those more than 15kg in weight (10kg in South Wairarapa) will not be collected.  Likewise non-council bags will not be collected.  The householder will be notified and is responsible for removing the bag from the kerb side as soon as possible.

Official council bags are available from the council offices and from most of the supermarkets and dairies in the area.

At Carterton Council Office - bags cost $2.00 inc GST each.

At Masterton Council Office - bags cost $7.00 inc GST for a pack of five.

At South Wairarapa Council Office - bags cost $7.00 inc GST for a pack of 10

The cost and availability of bags at the supermarkets and dairies may vary.

Please note; you must use an official bag from your area. E.g. you can't use a Carterton bag in Masterton etc

Please look at Recycling and Waste Minimisation for help with reducing the amount of rubbish you produce.
