EM Composting
EM stands for effective
micro-organisms. Feeding your food scraps to EM bugs is a great
way to recycle most kitchen scraps, especially if you have limited
space.
Bokashi Bucket
The
most effective method of composting kitchen organics is done in an air
tight container using Bokashi as an inocculant or compost starter.
Bokashi is a Japanese term that means “fermented organic matter.” It is
a bran based material that has been fermented with EM liquid concentrate
and dried for storage. Bokashi is a pleasant smelling product which you
add to your bucket and which aids in the fermentation of the organic
matter. Always store EM Bokashi in a warm dry place out of direct
sunlight. A kitchen cupboard is ideal.
Simply place
your food scraps in an airtight container and add EM Bokashi to kick
start the fermentation process. At the same time EM Bokashi neutralises
odours and breaks down the food, producing a liquid fertilizer. The
composting process is completed by burying your fermented food scraps in
the garden. EM
Bokashi is a bran-based material that has been “seeded” with “Effective
Micro-organisms” and dried to make storage easy.
