Clean Fill
From October 1st 2006 the landfill at
Nursery Road will convert to a clean fill operation. This is part
of restoring the site as part of its closure.
At Nursery Road cleanfill meeting the
criteria below will be charged at $5.00 per tonne (inc. GST)
Construction and demolition waste not
meeting the criteria below will be charged as general refuse.

What is Clean Fill?
Clean fill is an inert waste that when buried will
have no adverse environmental effect. The material deposited as clean
fill will typically be from construction and demolition activities, and
will generally comprise soil, rock, concrete, bricks and similar inert
material.
Clean fill material includes natural materials such
as clay, soil, rock gravel and sand that are free of:

Combustible, putrescible, degradable or leachable components

Hazardous substances
-
Products or materials derived from hazardous waste treatment,
stabilisation or disposal practices.

Material that may pose a risk to human or animal health such as
asbestos, radioactive substances, medical & veterinary waste

Acceptable Materials:

All Clean fill must be suitable for temporary roading
or cover material of the tip face, free of contamination and smaller
than 300mm in dimension
Mixed loads containing only the above
criteria will also be accepted.

following materials are demolition waste and are unacceptable as
clean fill |

- Boards and panels -
Formica, hardboard, MDF (medium-density
fibreboard), particleboard (chipboard), plywood
|
- Cables electrical or structural
|
- Cork tiles and insulation
|
- Concrete larger than 300mm in any
dimension
|
|
|
- Contaminated soil and
spoil e.g. contaminated with oil, paint, petroleum products or
similar
|
- Electrical
equipment, fittings and insulation
|
- Glass fibres
pink bats and similar
|
- Plasterboard gib,
drywall, etc
|
- Metals corrugated iron/zinc, roofing,
structural steel, window frames
|
|
|
|
|
|
Note: If a substance or
material is not included above, it does not imply it is suitable for
acceptance as clean fill. |
Materials that would otherwise have been acceptable
as clean fill will become unacceptable if contaminated with or mixed
with unacceptable material. The full weight of a contaminated
load will be charged at the
General Refuse rate.
It is your responsibility for ensuring that your load meets the clean
fill criteria. Loads may be inspected and
photographed.
Asbestos (including asbestos sheeting) is classed as special waste;
advice must be sought from the council before disposal.
